Summary of “surfing’s up and the grades are down”
In the article “surfing’s up and the grades are down” from Washington Post National weekly edition, written by Rene Sanchez describes about the student spending too much time on computers and unable to break their addiction to surfing and further describes the perspectives and ways of some universities counselors to improve the students who are letting computers overwhelm their lives.
The writer goes on saying that how the university and colleges are supporting the group created like ”Caught in the web” to counsel students spending more time on internet. Some college say it is merely a fad, and officials not nearly as harmful as other bad habits students often fall prey to on campuses. On the other hand, Some college counselors are creating workshops on the subject and planning to include them in freshman orientation programs. Others already are urging students not to plunge into on-line relationships with strangers. Some even email strangers and become swindled out of money because of whom they have come to trust.
Some universities have started limiting the usage of computers for students to make their habits away, While some universities officials thinks it’s a way for student to keep all their stress and pressures away. Also in the article one student has even explained that despite continuous usage of computers some students are even able to get 4.0 GPA while some gets their grades too low due to which they are compelled to drop off the colleges. University officials explains that they have dealt with alcohol, drugs, TV, Video games, and now this is the latest trend among the students because of which some of them forgets to eat, sleep do their assignments and most of them misses their morning class at 8:00 AM.
So at last I would like to say that because of addiction of using computers most of the students drops off their colleges so its necessary to limit their usage in the computers in schools and also I think their should be enough opportunity for students to get involved in different physical sports because of which they would get resist from all these computer hangouts.
